WHAT TO EXPECT: EVALUATION AND THERAPY

STEP 1: INITIAL PHONE CONSULTATION (COMPLEMENTARY)

In the initial phone consultation, you can discuss your concerns with the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), also known as speech therapist, who will perform a screening by speaking with you about the client’s functional levels, developmental milestones, and medical history. If there is a need for speech therapy, we will schedule the evaluation session.

STEP 2: COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION

The initial session will comprise of a comprehensive evaluation consisting of a caregiver interview, review of case history, informal testing or standardized and criterion-referenced assessments, and licensed SLP-led interaction and clinical observation. This first session will usually last between 1 to 1.5 hours. We utilize a variety of testing tools to help us analyze target areas, skills, strengths, and deficits. This sets the framework for planning intervention, and developing functional goals and treatment strategies. Investing the time upfront in evaluation ensures that therapy will be focused, efficient and effective.

STEP 3 :BEGIN THERAPY

Now it’s time to begin speech therapy and get the client on the path to meeting their goals!
Therapy is provided in-person or teletherapy, or combination of both. Therapy sessions range from thirty (30) to sixty (60) minutes in duration depending on their individualized speech therapy plan. We understand children learn best when their interests are engaged and the therapy activities are meaningful, motivating, fun and functional! We spend time getting to know our clients and their families. During every session, time is dedicated to answering questions and providing resources including home practice activities.
